2020 at Alex Solutions

2020 was a big year at Alex Solutions.

On New Year’s Day, 2020, I made a resolution that I would create positive impact and change at Alex Solutions. I knew the opportunity was upon me at a young, up and coming company and I just had to reach out and grab it.

At the time, I had no idea what was ahead of us in 2020 — a year of immense turbulence for everyone. As they say, out of challenge comes opportunity. I was determined to make the best of the situation for myself and my colleagues.

At Alex Solutions, we put a lot of focus on promoting the importance of mental health & wellbeing. This took on a new level of importance this year. I led by example and talked openly to the whole company about my own experience with anxiety and how I bounced back. I did so because I know that there is power in vulnerability and building an authentic culture at work. For a company to be successful, the team behind it has to be connected.

Despite the pandemic forcing us to be physically distanced from one another, we began exploring and defining the language around our shared beliefs and values. When our physical connections were forcibly severed, it became a priority to develop a shared sense of purpose to maintain togetherness. In team-level workshops we explored what distinguishes us as a company, what’s important to us and what behaviours we believe would lead us to great outcomes both as a team and individually.

Opening up this dialogue with every team member in the company was a fantastic experience. I discovered that despite being physically separated, our team rapidly achieved a consensus.

While we are still in the process of finalising our company values, I have already observed our team’s belief in encouraging and supporting one another. There is a desire to only accept world-class outcomes, empower our customers and drive innovation. To do this, we put a great deal of effort into establishing trust, ownership and self-improvement within teams. It all starts with a sense of care for one another.

As the year comes to a close, I hear team members reflecting on how much positive change has occurred over the past 12 months and can’t help but feel excited for the future.

If we can achieve this much during a global pandemic, what are we capable of next?
